Here’s how to calculate your gas mileage:

1. Fill up your gas tank all the way.
2. Reset your trip odometer after filling up your tank, or record your mileage exactly after filling up your tank.
3. Be sure to know how much fuel your gas tank holds, which you can find out in your owner’s manual.
4. Drive your car around like normal, and take note of things like accelerating or slowing to a brake. These habits will affect your gas mileage.
5. After you fill up your tank, record your gas mileage.
6. If you wait longer before filling up your tank again, your gas mileage calculation will be more accurate.
7. To figure out your gas mileage, divide the number of miles you drove by the number of gallons of gas it took to fill up your tank.
8. The sum should be miles driven divided by the gallons of gas you used.
9. You can also use the spot where your tank was when you filled it up (¼ tank, ½ tank, etc.), and divide out your total tank capacity to get an estimate.
10. Divide the miles you drove by that estimate.
